Blarney Castle, Co. Cork

I have been to the Ireland many times and have fallen in love with the beauty of the scenery and the graciousness of the people. No matter how often you go, there is always more to see.  My trips have ranged from 10 days to 48 days and I have made numerous friends there during my travels.  Since the death of my wife in 2005, I have decided to offer my services as a "tour guide" for others who would like to experience this magical land. I charge nothing for this service though there are certain expenses for which I expect to be compensated by the group.

Max size of group: 6 (total children and adults)

Below is a list of expenses and who is responsible for them:

  • Airfare

Responsibility of each traveler, including myself; Aer Lingus is almost always the cheapest unless you have travel miles on another airline

  • Rental vehicle

Responsibility of each traveler, including myself  (I will do all driving unless there are other brave souls who volunteer)

  • Petrol

Divided among the group members, excluding myself

  • Rooms

Responsibility of each traveler, including myself

  • Meals

Divided among the group members, excluding myself

  • Tourist attractions

Responsibility of each traveler, including myself.  Many of the attractions are free while others charge a nominal fee. If the attraction is part of the State Heritage system, it is covered by a card which can be purchased at the first of these attractions we visit.  Other attractions are either corporate or private and those fees are not covered. The cost of a Heritage Card is €21 (adult), €16 (Seniors), €8 (Student or child over 6).  However, if you add up the individual fees for those attractions on my itinerary, the total comes to over €250.

  • Purchases

Responsibility of each traveler including myself

It may look to the casual observer that my trip is being paid for but only my meals.  Check out the commercial tour sites and I guarantee you will see that it costs far more to book them and you won't get nearly as much for your money.

I have painstakingly put together an itinerary which I believe will appeal to almost everyone.  The question most people ask is "Why 21 days?"  Because, while there are certainly shorter tours available, they take you around Ireland but you really don't get to "see" or "experience" the country and its people.  You spend most of your time living out of a suitcase and getting on and off a bus with rigid time constraints that don't allow deviation or self-pacing. With my tour, I've built flexibility into the schedule so, if you see something that catches your attention, we'll stop and check it out!

I am very particular about my choices of places to stay.  I tend to avoid hotels since they are invariably more expensive than a bed and breakfast (B&B) and you aren't there long enough to avail yourself of their services anyway.  And, when it comes to B&Bs, nothing can ruin a trip more than substandard accommodations or a bad host/hostess. Over time, I have developed a list of B&Bs that I STRONGLY recommend for the personality of the proprietors, the ambience of the establishment, and the quality of the rooms. If you research B&Bs online, you may notice that some list the fare by person while others list it by room. In my table, the fees are listed by room, not by person.

My tour is especially suited to Seniors...there is a minimal amount of walking required.  I have an itinerary which we will go over each night and decide what we actually want to do the following day. This allows us to adjust to whatever weather conditions are expected and how the group feels at that time.
